51. Polished Poland

When you have such a good time that you’re already planning another trip. I truly enjoyed this visit. Definitely returning next summer!

I would recommend taking LOT Airlines into the capital. My Mum and I flew from Munich where the service was good and on time. Cute circular sandwiches with cheese and spinach were offered as a snack along with bottle of water. After all, it was only an hour and thirty minutes of travel.

Arriving in Warsaw, we took a taxi to our hotel. It was about a 20 minute ride to the city centre. We decided to stay at the luxury five star Warsaw Marriott Hotel. It was a welcoming experience and the 32nd floor views were absolutely amazing. We relaxed a bit to shake off the flight.

Then ready for adventure, we went to the Warsaw Uprising Museum for a bit of history. To see things you read about in your high school history textbook in person was great. Followed by the Chopin Museum because who doesn’t love Frédéric François Chopin. He remains today my favourite composer and pianist. from the Romantic period. A true genius of his time.

For lunch, we headed to Restauracja Różana for traditional Polish cuisine. It was also an opportunity to reunite with my university friend, Marek. We each ordered something different to share. This included green gardens salad, crispy crepes with crayfish, homemade pierogis with veal and mushroom, and freshly baked farmhouse duck accompanied by glasses of Sauvignon Blanc. This was the perfect welcome. It tasted like eating grandma’s food which was a real comfort.

After we went to the explore the centre. Strolling along many cafes, restaurants and shops, we took in the Polish vibe. The architecture is grand. There are loads of buildings that were constructed way before the war and still exist today. The way the city has maintained this is exceptional. However there is a ton of construction as well to create new structures and transportation paths.

Eventually, it was evening and time to drink. Klar called our name. Mum and I tasted a variety of gin and vodka based cocktails on the menu. I would suggest going with Aviation 36, Dew Honey 34, Terra Gon 40 or Poisoned Apple 36. Then the cocktail bar owners even introduced us to something new, Sava Gin.

During dinner time, we retreated to our accommodation. The Lobby Bar with a casual dress code was inviting enough. We had two glasses of Sauvignon Blanc before heading all the way up. The Floor 2 Restaurant has contemporary dishes. I would say that the mix salad, tagliolini with seafood and the lamb chops with vegetable main meals were delicious. For a nightcap, the Panorama Sky Bar was our destiny. The ceiling to floor window views of Warsaw made a magical end to the weekend. Dziękuję Polska!
