Beaming Beacon

Originally a historic destination, the arts and rivers took over as attractions for the city of Beacon.

Located in Dutchess County, there are Victorian and Gothic style buildings along the Hudson River including Madam Brett Homestead, Eustatia, Howland Cultural Centre and even the Post Office.

The first stop should be the majestic Bannerman Castle. Next built in 1929, my favourite place to escape is Dia: Beacon. It’s about 26 acres of contemporary art dating back to the 1960s in a massive modern architectural space. Imagine galleries devoted to installations, paintings, presentations and sculptures. Then a stroll along the Main Street to take in the town vibes. This will lead you to Towne Crier Cafe for a jazz filled lunch. After, hike Mount Beacon up to its observation deck to enjoy never-ending New York skylines. Later on, sip spirits, listen to live music and maybe dance the night away at Denning’s Point Distillery.
