“Live For It”: Brilliant Bruna

This is a highlight of my travelling through motorsport series featuring women excelling in the W Series. This was transferred from my Women Race website:

What an exciting time speaking with a fellow Brasiliera, Bruna Tomaselli, 23 years old, a W Series race car driver.

Bruna started her professional career at the Fórmula Junior Brasil in 2013. After two seasons, she upgraded to Formula 4 Sudamericana in 2015. This was well impressive as Bruna finished fourth in her second season. Eventually, she moved to the United States to race to compete in the U.S. F2000 National Championship in 2017. Then Bruna signed full time with Team Pelfrey finishing in 16th during 2018. Striving to do better, she excelled when moving to Pabst Racing Services and finishing in the top five in 2019. Soon enough it was time to join the W Series in 2020.

At the moment, Bruna is in Caibi, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Making me very jealous and reminiscent of the beautiful country! Of course, she’s taking care and maintaining safety precautions because of the covid-19 pandemic. Still, Bruna likes going to the farm and enjoys outdoor activities. Her favourite car is anything by Ferrari. Her favourite track is  Interlagos in the city of São Paulo. Her racing hero is Brasilian legend, Ayrton Senna.

I asked when did you know that you wanted to be a professional racing driver, Bruna answered, “I’ve always loved the sport, cars and since I started to race in go karts, I knew I wanted to be a race car driver. I get this feeling. The feeling I feel when I'm driving. The adrenaline. The sport.”

Within the motor racing industry, there’s been a degree of progress for women. Bruna believes that, “I think it's better than a few years ago. All the initiatives trying to increase the number of women in motorsport are helping. We can see more women racing, working in teams and it's very good for women and for all of motorsports, to have more power and diversity in the sport.”

The motorsport industry is continuing to improve. Tomaselli thinks, “There should be more initiatives for someone who wants to start in motorsport, in go karts or other categories.”

One motto that Bruna lives by is, “we need to live in pursuit of our dreams, always be you.” For advice to women aspiring to work in motorsport, Bruna advises, “I can say motorsport is a great sport to work and to live for it and if you want it, go ahead. Together we can show our power to have more women in motorsport.”

Bruna prepares for upcoming W Series seasons by doing fitness exercises, neck training, gym workouts and go kart practice simulator sessions everyday. Can’t wait to see what she does next. Wishing Bruna the best. Boa sorte!
