One Year Later

365 days around the sun and we’re celebrating our one year wedding anniversary. When debating where to visit, only one place came to mind > Barbados!

This was definitely one of the top holidays taken. It was one day at a time and not too many things scheduled but spending time together. For the accommodation, we stayed at Little Good Harbour. It’s nestled in Shermans, St Lucy in the north of the island. This was home for a few days. It’s a convenient location, very clean, has modern touches, friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere.

Surrounded by a lush landscape, it made for a tropical paradise. The bright blue sky, scorching sun and chirping birds were lovely. Also seeing the ocean everyday and hearing the waves was great. As we eased into the vacation, we remembered all the challenges and opportunities we faced in a year. Soon enough, it was time for dinner. Our favourite restaurant on the island is The Fish Pot. We exchanged cards and gifts. Apparently the traditional first year gift is paper. Thus, I created and designed a mini newspaper of our love. Then we ordered the Riesling, flying fish duo as well as the seafood risotto and the snapper with vegetables. Then there was a cute surprise with sparklers to celebrate us. It was so kind and thoughtful. The Fish Pot is always a good time, delicious dinner and excellent customer service. We loved it. Later on, we spent the night reading and relaxing. We made the most of our Monday memories.

On Tuesday, we went on the Mount Gay Signature Distillery St Lucy tour. It was educational and engaging. Karissa was friendly and knowledgable. It was wonderful to learn about the heritage, history and product portfolio. Afterwards, we ventured to Zaccio’s in Holetown where I had one of the best flying fish cutters yet. Next up, the beach was calling. Mullins where there is calm current, light blue water, soft sand, no rocks and when ready for an evening drink, Adrian’s Corner Sunset Bar & Grill is right there to say cheers with two Banks beer.

For dinner, we enjoyed Chef Michael Hinds West Bar & Restaurant. The Sauvignon Blanc complemented the seafood salad well. Then my husband had the barracuda, orzo and vegetables. The food was good. Our waitress, Katrina was awesome. Cool beats and lights made for a fun environment. On the way home, we spotted a remarkable red Ducati. Couldn’t help to not take a photo.

On Wednesday, we ate at Sand Street Bistro for lunch. The roasted pumpkin dip with pita and the shrimp tostada were tasty. During the afternoon, we drove to Hayman’s Market to check out the activations and booths. Swirls got our attention for soft serve ice cream as the dessert destination. Our afternoon was spent at Mullins beach. Thereafter, we met up with my cousin for dinner. Cocktails and chicken tenders with salad were delicious. The bartender, Amal was amazing as well. Would definitely recommend The Sipping Room.

Thursday took us to Scotland View Bar. It was breathtaking. From there, we lunched and chilled at Calma Beach Club. We had a refreshing drink called Ocean’s Three that surely turned my tongue blue. Also the bean tomato salad accompanied by mahi mahi with vegetables was delectable. By the evening time, Baia was our dinner spot. It was a fresh take on flavours and our tastebuds. Listening to the waves as we dined was truly romantic. While we waited for our chauffeur, we took a swing and looked up at the stars.

Finally Friday! What we were both waiting for all along. We woke up early to board a bus to adventure. The Cool Runnings Catamaran Lunch Cruise was from 9:30am-2:30pm. Snorkeling with turtles and exploring a shipwreck was epic! Also the lunch had a variety of options from banana bread to salad, rice and peas, macaroni pie, kingfish and baked chicken to potato salad. There was something for everyone and of course endless drinks. Captain Athiel and crew spoiled us happily. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the island to do this. Sail, drive, dance and vibe.

For the afternoon, we wound down at Sea Shed with drinks and dessert. To end the night, we returned to The Fish Pot where everything is forever perfect. As usual, a massive thank you to all of the staff there. They made our first wedding anniversary trip worth while.
