40. Autonomous Aruba
As an island which is constituent of The Netherlands, Oranjestad is the capital destination. The Caribbean climate is cool with high temperatures and low humidity.
Driven by tourism, the city has many attractions. Fort Zoutman is number one since it’s one of the oldest structures in the country. It’s great to visit to learn about the island’s culture at the Historical Museum of Aruba. As well as enjoy the many colourful hues of the local buildings. By the way, I love archictecture!
The best way to see more and get around the city is by the battery powered single track tram or by bike. This is mostly because the traffic is forever busy. This way you can mingle among locals who are friendly and welcoming, especially when exploring the local cuisine. Seafood snacks act as a staple as well as meat entrées. Great local dishes include stoba (a beef or gooat stew with a tomato base featuring potatoes, onions, garlic, hot pepper, nutmeg and a sprinkle of curry) and keshi ( a round or flat balls of cheese accompanied by spiced meat which can be served steamed or baked). Both are very delicious and flavourful.
To relax, the soft white sands of Eagle Beach is my favourite place. Stay at the Aruba Marriott Resort. I enjoyed my time there.
