47. The Bahamas

It was a warm and welcoming atmosphere all around the island of The Bahamas. The people were friendly and fun.

As you walk through the airport, you’re greeted by an official in uniform as well as the Hall of Champions. Getting on the motorway with fun roundabouts, there are island statues and gorgeous greenery that catch the eye. As you enter the city centre, all the government ministry buildings line the sides of the main road. Cool and colourful hotels and houses illustrate the amazing architecture.

Arriving at The Atlantis, the perfect palms guide you to the hotel. The pretty pink and emerald green decor surround the grounds with loads of explore. Don’t forget to get a Bahama Mama cocktail to enjoy during your walk. The Dig has an awesome array of fish where you can learn about marine life. I finally found Nemo. Also, the Shark Lagoon is intense if you would like to take it up another level.

For authentic cuisine head to Bahamian Cookin’ Kitchen which offers conch fritters, conch salad, green salad, lobster salad, and numerous Bahamian delights that can be washed down with a Sands beer.

Hungry for more adventure, we visited Pirates Nassau Museum to enjoy what it was like to be a pirate in the 1700s and 1800s.

Continuing on that theme, Pirate Republic Brewing Company was calling. It’s the first and only craft brewery in The Bahamas. The lead gentleman, Giovanni greeted us with a flight of five beers to taste including Long John Pilsner, Gold & Haze of Piracy, Take No Quarter, Island Pirate Ale, and Black Bear’d Stout. It’s clear we should all be pirates and join their ship. It was the spot to be.

It’s inevitable to spend a day at Paradise Beach. Water activities include lounging on a chair, catching a wave, drinking a pineapple cocktail, soaking up the sun, jet skiing, parasailing, scuba diving, water skiing, paddle boarding, swimming and more.

I highly recommend travelling to The Bahamas. From JFK New York to NAS Lynden Pindling International Airport, it’s a short two hours and 47 minutes. JetBlue is best. For current travel instructions and restrictions, visit here. Can’t wait to return one day soon!
