44. Golden Guadeloupe
Being safe is important. Therefore, the CDC states to avoid all travel with a level 4 status to the island.
When allowed though, the sun shines daily and the pace is slower. Located in the southeastern area of the Caribbean, Guadeloupe is known as Butterfly Island.
The coolest cities to explore are Pointe-à-Pitre and Gosier. A major destination would be the Musée Schœlcher dedicated to Victor Schoelcher, a notable politician & slavery abolitionist. A famous French poet and writer, Saint-John Perse has a nice museum highlighting his evocative and romantic poetry at a museum. The local marketplace has a Creole atmosphere. The national aquarium displays an array of fish species. Bas Du Fort is a tranquil spot with hill top views of the island.
From Bas du Fort to Gosier, it’s a 20 minute bus or taxi ride. The best thing to see is the Ilet Gosier, a super tiny island with a lighthouse and have a swim to shake off the heat from the day, granted the waves are calm.
For food, colombo consists of chicken, rice and curry. The local drink is white rum. An ‘A Ti Punch’ will do the trick which is rum, lime and sugar cane. The nightlife is next level with tunes of merengue, bachata, salsa, reggaeton. Dance the night away while enjoying your holiday!
