Second Longest Flight In History

Air New Zealand is set to launch a new route to the other side of the world this year.

In autumn, the first-ever direct flight from New York to Auckland will take off.

Air New Zealand CEO, Greg Foran said, “The US has always been a key market for us, and this new route cements our commitment to growing opportunities for tourism between the two countries. In the six years leading up to Covid, the US visitor numbers to New Zealand doubled so we expect our much-awaited non-stop service to be incredibly strong year-round.”

Flying from JFK International Airport to Auckland International Airport, it’s total duration is 17 hours and 35 minutes. It’s a Boeing 787 Dreamliner with 27 business class seats, 33 premium tier seats, 215 economy seats and 13 economy Skycouches. The flight will run on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Travellers will need to show full vaccination status or provide a negative PCR test taking within 48 hours of departure. On their first day, travellers must take a rapid antigen test and again on day 5.

Bringing innovation to travel, the longest flight remains New York to Singapore clocking 18 hours and 40 minutes. This Air New Zealand direct route will be the second longest flight in the air.

The flight will depart from New York to Auckland on 17 September 2022.
